This is the story of an elderly white woman. The majority of her
neighbours were Gujarati-speaking Hindus. She found their food and
their clothes and language not offensive, but strange and rather
forbidding. So she kept to herself, not wanting to be rude, but
uncertain how to make friends.
Her husband had cancer. He became terminally ill and went into
hospital. She was alone in her house and there was a knock on the
door. It was the small boy from next door . . .
